Preliminary interpretation of thermal manifestations reported for the State of Zacatecas, Mexico

This work presents the information resulting from the research literature of the state of Zacatecas, for 117 sites considered thermal manifestations (i.e. data with temperature ≥ 22.1 ° C, which corresponds 5° C above the annual average temperature). The thermal activity in waters occur at temperatures until 41 oC, with a range in pH between 5.0 -8.4 and total dissolved solids (TDS) between 85 – 1782 mg/L. From the Piper diagram allowed to identify that most of the waters are subject to a mixing process between bicarbonates and sulfate waters. In general the water type in thermal waters of Zacatecas are classified as peripheral bicarbonates (Giggenbach diagram for anions) most of the water were classified as peripheral bicarbonate. From the results of stable isotopes of few thermal waters from wells, the origin of this waters are mainly meteoric water. The thermal water mostly from wells of the Zacatecas states, correspond to the interaction of deep meteoric water that interact with the host rock as it passes trough carbonate and evaporite rocks and is heated by a normal geothermic gradient.
